The ABRSM Singing for Musical Theatre Grades 1 to 8 from 2023 allows candidates to perform well-loved songs while developing musical skills. Additionally, these skills are important to help candidates to develop and flourish during rehearsal, audition and performance situations. Contemporary Musical Theatre is simultaneously vibrant and energetic and fully deserving of its popularity with increasing numbers of performers.
Supporting songbooks for Grades 1 to 5 present a great range of songs from Lists A, B and C of the syllabus at each grade. Both stage and screen musicals provide source material for the wide range of classic and contemporary songs.
Newly added songs, following the launch of the syllabus in 2018, were also added from January 2023 showcasing recently-released shows, together with rediscovered favourites.
From the three lists, A, B and C, the candidate must choose one from each to be sung accompanied and those marked ✯ one unaccompanied piece. All pieces must be sung from memory.
(Last updated 1 August 2023. The ABRSM will post occasional changes to publication details or other minor corrections here.
