AQUILEIA

£1.20

SKU Code: FBR-39640

In an ancient Venetian legend, St. Mark was travelling from Aquileia to Brindisium, when a storm blew up. Taking refuge in the Rialto lagoon, he saw the vision of an angel who told him that his body would finally rest there. In later times the legend was used as one of the reasons for stealing the body of St. Mark from Alexandria in order to give Venice its patron saint.

Commissioned by the St. Louis Chamber Chorus and first performed by them, directed by Philip Barnes at St. Louis Cathedral-Basilica, Missouri on 16 February 2003. UK premiere by the Trinity College of Music Chamber Choir, conducted by Stephen Jackson at Old Royal Naval College Chapel, Greenwich on 1 April 2003.
