Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741) “was sprightly and highly inventive, and he filled almost half the world with his concertos” wrote Quantz in a brief appreciation of Vivaldi a generation later. It was only by chance that this Flute Concerto in D major, which was preserved anonymously in Schwerin – truly half a world away from Venice –, has been identified as a composition by Vivaldi. Easy to perform, this concerto radiates musical freshness and high spirits.
