Dave McGarry Dreams of You for Alto or Tenor Saxophone and Piano
From the composer:
Ninety per cent of Dreams of You was composed in roughly the time it takes to play the tune – it took me a lot longer to write it down! The 3/8 bars and minor refinements make up the remaining ten per cent. The tune is basically an improvisation over a chord progression, which is also improvised, and it grows out of the opening phrase, so that I feel that some sense of “discovery” and of wondering where the tune will go next should be conveyed during performance.
It was late at night and the house was very quiet when I sat down at the piano and “discovered” this tune, and although the title might suggest some emotional content, I was not thinking about anybody or anything particular at the time – disappointing eh? Be expressive.
Dreams of You was written in 1992.
