From 19th-century tradition, we know numerous examples of clarinet sonatas which were transcribed for viola. In the present edition Killmayer's piece, originally written for viola and piano, is arranged for clarinet and piano. The romantic, sentimental spirit in the musical language typical of Killmayer is a valuable addition to the repertoire of each clarinettist.
