The work was written on the eve of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which the composer's participation in a music festival became impossible due to the escalating political situation. In the composition, Waterhouse uses a fragment of a Ukrainian folk song and thus refers to the cultural treasure of the invaded country. Nevertheless, Waterhouse intones optimistic, peaceful sounds at the end of the piece, thus sending a strong, hopeful musical signal.
