This piece centres on the medium of air. I wanted to produce a musical interpretation of the mythical figure of Icarus. This myth says a lot about the role of the artist. I have been inspired by a wonderful poem by Charles Baudelaire: As regards his 'Icarian Lament' one never knows exactly in which period the poem is set, whether it refers to a state of mind or a vision of the future or if it is all over already. There is a sense of timelessness in the poem which I wanted to represent with my music as well. Jörg Widmann
