The text of Karakia is a traditional Maori prayer, a homage to the elements and rhythms of nature. Every pitch in the piece is derived from the name of the composer's mother, who was born in New Zealand and died early in 2015. It is a sacred song of remembrance and renewal. © Zoe Martlew
