Wilhelm Petersen (1890-1957) is one of the composers of the 20th century who followed their own path away from the avant-garde. He was an artistic double talent and wrote his own poetry. He was sure which way to go in his youth and his inclination towards literature can be seen in his extensive song creation, which includes large cycles including settings of Shakespeare, Goethe, Hölderlin and Eichendorff texts.
