Composed by Schumann in 1842, Schumann's “year of chamber music", this is the first known scoring of a piano quintet for piano, two violins, viola and cello. Prior to this piano quintets were written for piano, violin, viola cello and double bass.
Edited by Ernst Hettich, and with his preface in German, English and French. The piano part also contains information on the autograph score, the original copyist's manuscript of the piano part, and the first edition parts, which were published by Breitkopf & Hartel in 1843.
