Franz Anton Hoffmeister is one of the most skillful and productive composers of sophisticated entertainment music at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. With his string quintet he helped the genre to gain significant distinction from the string quartet. Like his friend W.A. Mozart, he strived for clarity in the voices.
