Summer 1955 is a curious collection of unrelated compositions that Partch composed or revised around the same time; he likely did not intend it to be performed as a set. The five short pieces are important early works which were conducive to establish Partch as an acknowledged composer. Here he already uses instruments developed by himself, like the adapted viola or the boobam which became indispensable in his later works.
