This work is among today's most popular works by Saint-Saëns who, at first, did not even want to publish it as he feared for his reputation. In this work, Saint-Saëns parodies his colleagues Offenbach (turtle) and Berlioz (elephant), among others. Includes recording of the work performed by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ondrej Lenard.
