The composer was one of the circle of musicians and composers gathered about the music-loving Frederic II of Prussia. As early as 1734 the Crown Prince mentioned his name as a member of the Ruppin orchestra.. Schaffrath may be singled out as one of the most interesting and innovative composers of the Berlin circle.
