The composer Bertold Hummel used to give musical presents at birthdays. Thus, he created many pieces which are easy to play and could be performed ad hoc at family parties. The four violin pieces in the present edition were composed by Bertold Hummel in the last years of his life. Albumblatt, Arietta and Tango are dedicated to his wife Inken, who played the violin, and Ständchen was written for his granddaughter Johanna Marie, when she was born.
