Inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's poem Schlußstück Widmann created an In Memoriam for the pianist and conductor Lars Vogt with this work for two violins and piano. Widmann ends the piece hauntingly „Wie aus dem Jenseits“ with the imitation of an expiring music box in the piano.
