This selection provides and intriguing glimse of the wealth of Christmas music in German-speaking areas in the Baroque Period period. Although a larger repertory exists for mixed voices, upper-voice and lower-voice settings were by no means neglected. The pieces in this collection are often based on well-known tunes that would be even more familiar to congregations and domestic gatherings in Baroque Period times than they are today. The texts, in German and Latin, come from both the Protestant and Roman Catholic traditions, with particular emphasis on Lutheran expressions of joy and salvation in the former, and on Mary as the mother of Jesus in the latter. You can buy individual pieces in this collection as digital sheet music, or why not buy the collection as a printed score!
